Before & After: Downstairs Bathroom

Fabric Paper Glue | Guest Bath Before & After

I realized the other day that I never shared a proper before and after of our downstairs bathroom. Not exactly a call-home-to-mom before & after, but we made a few small changes to keep it fresh and clean. The blue walls were brightened up with white paint, and although I'd seriously considered putting up some bold wallpaper, it quickly became evident that wasn't happening. See that big bump right above the tile on the corner there? Yup. No chance wallpaper is going on that.

The only other big change was a new sink...only because it was a vehicle for a new faucet. Old pics of the place reveal that this sink (although old) wasn't original, but even if it was, these dual nozzle faucets are pretty much a nightmare for all practical purposes. So we installed basically the cheapest pedestal sink available and a lovely faucet with a little vintage charm.

My favorite change to the room was the addition of these floral illustrations by artist Michelle Schneider (which I discovered via the Curtis Casa). They're a little nod to the floral wallpaper that I had my heart set on, and beautifully offset by some bold black frames.

It's a great little bathroom, and I'm still so in love with this old floor tile!

What would you have done in here? More color? Or do you like the simple black and white?

  4. B&W is so classic for a bathroom. I think we had those same floor tiles in bathrom of the 1920s house I grew up in. How I don't miss the separate hot and cold faucets we had there as well!

My current powder room is black and white as well, but my walls are black, with everything else being white.
