This week, we're embroidering all kinds of shit. See yesterday's pin board project here. Today, let's embroider a tote bag.
Read on for the full tutorial.
MATERIALS: Pre-Made Canvas Tote Bag, Embroidery Thread, Embroidery Needle, Marking Pencil, Ruler
ONE: Begin by drawing out a geometric pattern of your choosing using a water-soluble marking pen/pencil. Believe it or not, my geometric pattern (and this whole project, in fact) were inspired by this bathroom tile.
TWO: Embroider over your pattern with evenly-spaced French knots. For a nice, clear tutorial on making a French knot, hope over to Sublime Stitching. They're super easy, and they're definitely my favorite embroidery stitch of all (shh...don't tell the others).
THREE: Be patient and keep chugging along until you've embroidered over your entire pattern.
This is a great project for taking on the road. My favorite part is that those adorable little French knots give the already awesome pattern even more dimension.
This is such a great idea! And a great way to use up my embroidery thread stash I've been keeping since my friendship bracelet making days!
